A confident performance by the Reds saw them take all three points from their trip to Prescot Cables on Saturday. Two goals in each half were sufficient to see off the challenge of the Merseysiders.

Colne took the lead after only four minutes when, after some good passing up the right wing, the ball reached Reece Webb-Foster for a run to the bye line and his low cross was knocked home from close range by Anthony Williams. The Reds almost doubled their lead after 12 minutes when another close range shot by Williams was cleared off the goal-line by Prescot defender Daniel Murphy.

Prescot raised their game and began to threaten with some good attacks led by Leon Johnson, but Tom Dean was equal to the challenge with a series of good headed clearances and Harry Winstanley’s vital tackles cut out the danger on several occasions.

After 24 minutes, Ryan Taylor’s corner kick was played in low to the near post where Webb-Foster turned it home to double Colne’s lead. Five minutes later, the Reds again came close when Harry Cannon-Noren’s 25 yard shot brought a great diving save from Cables keeper Mitchell Allen to turn the ball round the post.

Colne controlled midfield with Charlie Russell working hard to keep possession and prompt further attacks as the Reds dominated the game up to half time.

Prescot emerged in a more determined mood after the interval, but ten minutes into the second half Webb-Foster’s shot was deflected for a corner and from the resulting cross the ball flew goalwards off a Cables defender’s head only for Allen to produce another great save to push the ball round the post and prevent an own goal.

As play switched to the other end, a long cross into the Colne goalmouth reached Mackenzie O’Neill at the far post but he only managed to head the ball back across the goalmouth from a great chance. Five minutes later, a good move by Cables gave Lloyd Dean a sight of goal, but his shot was a comfortable save for Colne keeper Craig Ellison.

After 70 minutes, a good run by Webb-Foster on the right wing and a low cross into the penalty area found Billy Hasler-Cregg who turned past the defender and fired a diagonal shot into the far corner of the net to stretch Colne’s lead to 3-0.

Six minutes later, Hasler-Cregg laid the ball off for Oli Roberts to fire home from the edge of the area for Colne’s fourth goal.

Colne kept up the attacks in the closing stages with Alex Dodd and Olatunde Bayode creating chances and Webb-Foster saw his goal-bound shot saved by the keeper’s legs in the last minute of the game.

A well deserved emphatic win by the Reds who continue their rise up the table.
