The Reds had to settle for a point in their home fixture versus newly promoted City of Liverpool. After an even start Colne got on the front foot and on 11 minutes Connor Hughes played in Chippendale down the left and his low cross was turned just wide by Will Harris.
Colne took the lead on 15 minutes when a chipped cross from captain Lee Pugh was expertly guided over the keeper and into the net by Harris. Liverpool had an immediate chance to equalise but Kinsella was crowded out by the Colne defence before he could shoot. Again on 19 minutes Harris and Pugh combined down the left which saw Hazeldine’s shot blocked for a corner. It was Liverpool’s chance to go close next when Jason Jeffries headed just wide from a corner.
After 64 minutes Chippendale and Donaldson combined well but the final ball was just out of reach of Donaldson as he attacked the Liverpool area. Five minutes later Colne almost extended their lead when a low cross from Chippendale was almost turned in to the goal by Harris.
Harris was proving a handful for the Pool defence and again after fine hold up play his low shot was well held by the keeper. Brad Knox next got in the act as his long range thunderbolt was turned over the bar by keeper Marshall. However on 77 minutes Colne were to rue those chances when good build up play by Liverpool saw the ball reach the edge of the area and Elliot Nevitt’s shot took a wicked deflection to nestle in the bottom corner giving keeper Calderbank-Park no chance. Neither team could fashion another clear cup opportunity.
Colne are next in action on Tuesday night with a derby fixture v Ramsbottom kick off 7.45PM.
